This book is about a Ute girl who was captured and traded many times. She expiriences many different feelings. Like happiness, sadness, lonlieness, and anger. She was treated very harshly at first, then loved by a family. She was finally returned toher Ute family. Her brother, Ouray, was made chief of the tribe and fought the White Men with fighting words, not with weapons, such as spears or bows and arrows. This was a very interesting book, which was based on American History.

I liked this book a lot. I like the way it was written- it was very descriptive. It was a little bit sad, but it kept me interested.

"...I'll trade you to the whites. They'll lock you in a wooden crate and you'll never see the light of day again." In Bear Dancer, this is the threat that they use to scare their prisoner, Elk Tooth Dress into not running away. Bear Dancer is full to the brim with lots of other suspensful details just like this one. In the book, Elk Tooth Dress is traded from tribe to tribe for what seems like an endless amount of time. You should definitly read Bear Dancer by Thelma Hatch if you like action packed books. So get reading!!

"If you try to run away, they will lock you in a wooden cage and you will never see daylight again." Kidnapped by enemy Indians, Elk Tooth Dress tells her story of exile, despair, courage, and kidnapping Indians.Bear Dancer by Thelma Hatch Wiess was soooooo awesome that I could not put it down, as if my eyes had been glued to the book. Elk Tooth Dress struggles with love, being a captive, and figuring out how to get back to her tribe. Bear Dancer is not for the faint hearted.

How would you feel if you were kidnapped and whipped if you tried to escape? In Bear Dancer by Thema Hatch Wyss, a Ute girl named Elk Girl is kidnapped in the middle of the night and taken to the Cheyenne tribe. There she is turned into a slave. When the Cheyenne tribe comes to hate Elk Girl, they trade her to the Arapaho tribe and they soon trade her to the white men. The white men help her get back to her tribe safely. Will she get home?
Bear Dancer by Thema Hatch Wyss was an inspiration to me me because it lets me know that I should not lose hope. Elk Girl did not lose hope when she was traded from tribe to tribe. She had hope that she would get home safe and unharmed.
I know I will remember every little detail in Bear Dancer by Thema Hatch Wyss.
